The rainforest certainly looks amazing and while some may argue that it might not look as realistic as in CryEngine, it looks absolutely beautiful. It's quite exciting to see what developers create with the great possibilities of the Unreal Engine 4, and when we might get a AAA title taking full advantage of the huge potential of the engine. I have motion sickness issue while playing games, but I enjoyed this short walking simulator. I hope I could make the playthrough relaxing and enjoyable for whoever wanted to go for a walk with me. Okay, so I have some feedback to give on the game. First of all, definitely pretty. As it should be. I don't have any problem with running it either at max settings on aor with movement or anything like that.

However, there are a number of issues. Number one, and the worst in my opinion: The bloom and godrays are insane, and completely ruin it.
The options menu says low light isn't recommended, but even with low there are still plenty of scenes that look like I'm viewing them through a foggy window. I've attached links of how bad it is with the light on High, and the issues still with it on Low. For an explorable environment, there shouldn't be invisible walls except at the boundaries of the explorable region, the physical objects should be the only boundaries inside it.
And the slowdown to a crawl when you leave the path also seems to discourage exploration. Less major, but still annoying, whenever you're moving and you go through or even close to a bush or branch, the game tries to focus in on that item and then focuses back out again.

The scene uses dynamic lighting only. This way we can forget about baking lightmaps each time when we want to move a single element. But it also means that during first opening we need to wait until UE4 compiles all Mesh Distant Fields, which, in this case, can take more than 1,5 hour.
Luckily it's a one-time process. We included three scenes in the project. The first trees are just scattered trees, you'll need to drag and drop some light to see them, it's working scene only. The second is "Overview" with all trees placed in order on backdrop so you can take a closer look at each model. The third one "showcase" is our Lake and forest scene. The lake is a separate mesh - it's a simple plane but with quite sophisticated material.
We have separate speed parameter it's a scalar parameter, easy to change. We finetune UVs scale with couple of Multiply nodes. We add two normals, multiply them with a yellow color and then with white color which controls normals strength. This part of material controls water distortion when you look through it, not distortion of waves. Distortion nodes go into "height" input of Bump Offset.
The rocks have very simple materials - just basic textures plugged in with Texture coordinates nod for controlling UV tiling.

Which is nice of course, but it could be hard to make "fair" games with this as there are so many variables to factor in. But some basic physic based games could be very fun.
Maybe even like a waterslide game or wild river game where you have to avoid obstacles and such. But then you'd have to add something that only fluid simulations can give, because otherwise it's a bit overkill.
John Alcatraz. Based on my knowledge, a typical games give only several milliseconds per frame to a physics engine, and mostly only on CPU. We haven't optimized our method much it's simply a basic vanilla implementationso there is a large space for improvement my guess is that 5x should be achievable.

Log in with itch. A fantastic little project here. The DEV has spent a lot of time putting together a realistic scene which is just about almost there. It's a little dark but with a touch of brightness and contrast this could be improved!
Now there's a thought. It just fits so well. Visually very nice, very small space to explore though, hopefully it can be expanded. I haven't played enough with the engine to create my own anything so I can't complain : I've actually been looking for this very kind of thing, exploration of environments with no objectives. This was the first scene I've made, I had to learn how to do everything from scratch. You're definitely right, maybe in the future. But soon i'm thinking of adding some elements of discovery, like secret areas etc.
